10K Course Map
5K Course Notes:
The course is made up of three loops; all of which give runners a unique and beautiful view of the downtown spruce pine area. The course is all paved and has some pretty “exciting” elevation changes.
1. The first leg goes through the gorgeous English Woods neighborhood and hopefully the beautiful neighborhood will take you mind off of the challenging hills that await you there. You will be turning left to stay on English Rd in English Woods and turning right on Greenwood Rd
2. After looping back runners will head across the Highland Avenue bridge into historic downtown Spruce Pine. The course goes along the shops on “upper street” and then heads to “lower street” parallel to the train tracks and river through gorgeous downtown Spruce Pine.
3. Finally the last loop will end in the beautiful Riverside Park which runs along the North Toe River.
4. The course finishes in the park officially at 3.1 miles. Then runners will go an additional .11 miles to total 3.21 miles symbolizing the 21st chromosome having a 3rd strand which is the definition of Down syndrome.
There will be two water stations and a sports drink station on the course. The sports drinks will be available in English Woods before the elevation climb. The first water station is also in English Woods at the top of the last hill. The second water station will be located on lower street at the Spruce Pine Main Street booth.
